Saugerties Lions

The Saugerties Lions Club was chartered in October 1932. We recently celebrated 75 years of serving the local community through various projects and donations that have benefited individuals and local charity organizations. Our Primary Mission is to Benefit Community Residents in need of assistance in the health related area of “SIGHT, HEARING AND DIABETES”.

In addition to our Primary mission our club provides a $4000 dollar scholarship to a graduating senior of the Saugerties High School. We have donated to the local Christmas Toy Store, Saugerties Youth Hockey, Saugerties Library, Saugerties Historical Society, Saugerties High School Teams, The Mum Queen, Post Prom Parties and other local causes. We recently provided a significant donation to the Support Our Service People organization.

The Saugerties Lions Club has built and maintained the Lions Playground at Cantine Field. We recently constructed a new “Kiddy Pool” that is utilized by the community during the summer months. We also have an annual Easter Egg Hunt for children under the age of 12.

We provided a dozen eyeglasses and one hearing aid to local residents in 2007. We also collected over 1700 eyeglasses at our collection areas that are utilized overseas to provide sight to the poor in underdeveloped countries.

The Saugerties Lions Club has three annual fundraisers that provide the majority of funds used to support our activities. Las Vegas Night, Saugerties Lions Club Golf Tournament and Our Annual Auction. Please check our calendar for dates and times.

The Saugerties Lions Club is comprised of men and women from primarily the local Saugerties area. We are a diverse group with varied work and educational backgrounds. We are civic minded and are continually looking for new ways to “SERVE” our community. We meet the second and fourth Monday of every month with no meetings scheduled during the months of July and August. The Board does meet every third Monday throughout the year. Our membership meetings begin at 6:30 PM and normally last about 90 minutes including dinner. After dinner Guest Speakers are welcome and topics usually include community needs and areas that require volunteers.

We are always looking for new members who are interested in joining an organization whose only goal is to “SERVE” the community we live in. If interested please utilize the becoming a member link on our HOME PAGE.

The benefits to the community are invaluable, the friendships will last a lifetime and our successes are never forgotten.
